Since the age of 4, when Tineke took her first photo of her grandfather, there has almost always been a camera of some sort in her hand. Starting with 110 film, graduating up to 35mm, and eventually making the foray into the digital world, she developed most of her early work in a dark room! By the age of 15, Tineke was starting to work professionally as a photographer doing head shots and weddings. She completed her diploma at Langara College in 1999/2000 in Vancouver just at the time that the industry was going digital, meaning she became proficient in Photoshop before most people even knew what it was.
Northern Persona Photography officially began in 2004 when Tineke hung up her hat as a graphic designer and decided to move full-time into photography. Since then she has photographed thousands of families across British Columbia, captured weddings in gorgeous parts of the world, and celebrated milestones with grads, new moms, entrepreneurs and everything in-between. The reality of it hit her when she started photographing the same grads whose newborn baby photos she had also done!
Northern Persona specializes in weddings, grads, and families, using our unique point of view and candid style to create authentic moments. Every session is a chance to try something new creatively, and connect with the beautiful people in our front of our lens.
As a bonus, we have been teaching photography through in-person programs and online courses since 2009. Helping our students fall in love with photography and see the world through new eyes is our greatest joy!
Although Tineke is the founder and main photographer, this ship has always run smoothly because of the awesome crew that help to make it all happen. Read on to meet the amazing people who help Northern Persona to keep on ticking in 2025.
Meet the team!

"I have been doing photography professionally for 27 years, which means I'm getting old as f. But I'm still just as madly in love with this artform as I was when I got my first camera as a child. In the off-season, you will find me travelling to other parts of the world where I love meeting fascinating people, photographing castle ruins, and riding my mountain bike. My dream shoot would be of a woman in a huge stunning gown in a castle ruins. Any takers?"

"I started photography in February 2024 and moved over to Canada from Scotland in June 2024. I love to photograph wildlife, people and landscapes. If I'm not taking photos, you'll most likely find me playing pool or making cocktails at The Den. My dream photography subject would be either a grizzly bear or an orangutan! My other obsessions in life are travelling, live music and poker."

"I have been a photographer for over 20 years, I love shooting moments of joy, my family, our adventures, and plants. In my spare time you'll find me running, xc skiing, or going to my daughter's sports events. I would love to have the chance to photograph Atlantic puffins and pink flamingos one day! My other obsessions in life are tea and birds!"

Photo Assistant
I started my photography journey in 2022 when I took my camera to grad and photographed my friends walking across stage. I posted the photos and an old co-worker of mine said she loved the photos and would like me to be her assistant at a few weddings. Just like that, word got around that I was taking photos and the rest is history! My favourite things to shoot are wildlife, sports (hockey, rodeo, surfing), and lifestyle. In my spare time you'll find me going for a walk, doing a puzzle, or (honourable mention) napping. I’m usually napping. My dream is to travel to take wildlife photos as most of my shots are local. Other obsessions in life outside of photography are walks, hikes, and my cat Nibbler!
